SUMMARY OF PRACTICE
Michelle M. Schott received her J.D. Degree from Seton Hall University School of Law School after completing her M.A. in Deaf Education a B.A. in Special Education and teaching for several years. Upon graduation from law school, Ms. Schott served as law clerk to the Hon. David D. Furman, Presiding Judge of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey.
Ms. Schott has defended large and small corporations, nonprofits, boards of education and municipalities and their various subdivisions in complex employment matters. She has defended her clients in matters under CEPA, LAD, FLA, FMLA, ADA, the IDEA and related statutes in State and Federal courts and administrative agencies – EEOC, DCR and DOE. Clients include entities with employees who are union members, as a result of which she is practiced in managing the special considerations that present themselves in that circumstance. Ms. Schott also provides legal advice to clients on an ad hoc basis and identifies proactive steps to avoid the escalation of potential legal issues. Updating clients on statutory and regulatory changes, most recently Covid-19 related concerns, is part and parcel of her practice. She is a certified Title IX Level Two Investigator and investigates all types of discrimination claims. Other legal services she provides include preparing and/or reviewing employee handbooks, discrimination and other workplace policies and procedures, termination letters and severance agreements. Ms. Schott regularly advises clients on statutory and regulatory developments in Employment and School Law and their potential impact on those clients.
